Rotherham MP Sarah Champion has been given a role in Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet team - as a minister for preventing abuse.
The Labour MP was the third South Yorkshire MP to become part of Mr Corbyn’s shadow cabinet and will be part of the home affairs team.
Ms Champion has campaigned for more funding and work to tackle child sexual exploitation, as well as support for victims, since the Rotherham grooming scandal broke a year ago,
She said on Twitter when the role was announced that she would put her ‘heart and soul’ into the job.
Also in South Yorkshire, Wentworth and Dearne MP John Healey has been made shadow minister for housing and planning, and Barnsley East MP Michael Dugher as shadow secretary of state for culture, media and sport.
Mr Corbyn was elected Labour leader in a landslide victory on Saturday.
He replaces former Labour leader and Doncaster North MP Ed Miliband, who stood down after the Conservatives won the election.
