Businesses rewarded for creating healthy workforce
Employers were this morning (Wednesday March 15) rewarded for making a real difference to improve workplace health within their organisation as part of the North Lincolnshire Council Public Health led Wellbeing at Work Award Scheme.
Baroness Liz Redfern, leader of the council Cllr Rob Waltham and cabinet member for Health and Wellbeing, Cllr Carl Sherwood and others presented trophies and certificates at a major celebration event held at British Steel in Scunthorpe.
The winners are:
North Lincolnshire Council – Gold award (trophy and certificate)
Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (Scunthorpe Hospital and Community Services) – Bronze Award (certificate)
Clugston Distribution Services Ltd – Bronze Award (certificate)
British Steel – Outstanding Contribution to Workplace Health in 2017 (trophy)
Last year, the council trained around 200 Health Champions. Certificates were also presented to representatives of the following organisations:

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (Scunthorpe Hospital and Community Services) – Sally Yates

Certificates will be posted out to the remaining health champions to recognise their success.
A number of employers were available to discuss and demonstrate the difference that taking part in the scheme has made to their business.
Health Fair – there will be a number of health stalls with experts offering help and advice for example stop smoking, weight management initiatives, drugs and alcohol, sexual health and sport, leisure and culture.
Councillor Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for Health and Wellbeing at North Lincolnshire Council, said: We are committed to supporting improvement of the health and wellbeing of our local population and by working in partnership with local businesses, we aim to improve employees’ health and wellbeing and create a healthy workplace culture across North Lincolnshire.
“There is strong evidence that having a healthy workplace has significant benefits for workers and employers. Workers enjoy healthier lives, take fewer days off sick and are more productive. Businesses are more likely to invest in an area with a healthy workforce.
“There are some great examples of the work local employers are doing to ensure they foster a healthy workplace culture, including North Lincolnshire Council, and they should be proud of their achievements.”
