Police warning to Isle motorists

Motorists in the Isle are urged by police to be extra careful on minor roads during spells of wintry weather.

An icy Monday morning saw four road collisions occur in quick succession, due largely to motorists not taking sufficient care and attention in view of weather conditions, said a police spokesman.

Several cars skidded in to deep roadside ditches.

The spokesman added: “Patches of black ice can linger for a considerable amount of time, and people must drive to road conditions and slow down from their normal speed when temperatures have dropped.

“There was a lot of rain on Sunday night and then the temperature plummeted to below freezing, leading to treachorous conditions. Drivers must be wary, and must also ensure windscreens are defrosted properly before they set out on journeys.

“We all need to be more road aware.”
