A woman was left injured after being attacked by a man on her own doorstep.

The incident happened when an unknown man knocked on the door of a home in Heron Court, Wheatley.

The occupant, a woman aged in her 50s, answered the door but left the chain on.

It is reported that the man then tried to force entry to the property, grabbing the woman and pulling her towards the door.

The woman suffered facial injuries.

On realising he could not gain entry, the man and two others then fled the scene.

The incident happened on Saturday, April 28, at about 11.50pm but police have only just released details.

The force has issued a CCTV image of a man they are tracing as part of their appeal.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Police believe the man pictured could hold important information about the attempted burglary and are keen to hear from anyone who recognises him.
