Centenarian Laura Beighton toasted reaching her 100th birthday with a party attended by friends and family.
The Mexborough woman reached the grand old age on October 28 and celebrated at Rowena House Care Home in Conisbrough.
Mrs Beighton enjoyed cake, music, drinks and also received a card of congratulations from The Queen.
Her former pit deputy son Peter, 75, of Hamilton Close, Mexborough, said: “Even now she is still feisty and likes her independence.
“She always been slim and used to go walking a lot so that has probably help her to reach a long age.
“She had a great celebration at the care home.
“They put on a real party for her, it was really nice.”
She used to work in the kitchens of The Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax.
She is also very well known in Mexborough as she later became a home help worker for the elderly in and around the Mexborough area.
Mrs Beighton has been a widow since 1972 when her colliery worker husband Cyril died aged 66.
She has one child, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
