Schools, colleges, youth clubs and community groups are being urged to take part in Rotherham’s first ever carnival parade this year.

The Open Minds Theatre Company and Rotherham Culture Company are behind the event and will run carnival arts workshops with professionals who have worked on national and international carnivals.

Costumes, music and performances will then be showcased in the carnival parade in September.

The work will then be displayed as part of an exhibition in the Old Market Gallery in October for Black History Month.

Carnival organiser Vicky Hilton said: “We are using the arts as a way of pulling Rotherham communities together in a celebration of what makes Rotherham.”
