Party heavyweights backing Shaun

A RAWMARSH candidate for the role of Police and Crime Commissioner for South Yorkshire has received strong Labour backing.

Wentworth and Dearne and Rotherham MPs John Healey and Denis MacShane, along with Barnsley and Rotherham Council leaders Steve Houghton and Roger Stone have endorsed Shaun Wright, 44, for the position.

Four candidates have been shortlisted for the Labour nomination and will be put to an all Party member vote in May.

In a joint statement the heavyweights said: “We’re glad to see Shaun on Labour’s shortlist. Not only does Shaun have the experience to be an effective police commissioner, he is firmly rooted in the South Yorkshire community he seeks to represent.”
