A FREE Press paperboy who saw his bike being stolen during one of his rounds was given a helping hand to buy a new one.
Jamie Canning parked up to deliver papers to houses in Watch House Lane, Bentley, but when he returned two opportunist thieves had taken off with his Apollo Creed bike, the Free Press was told.
The distraught 14-year-old had to cancel another round he was due to start that same day following the theft.
However, after Jamie told his York Road employers Newscaster about the incident, the National Federation of Retail Newsagents stepped in to award the teen £70 towards a new bike.
Dad Andy Canning, of Norman Crescent, Sunnyfields, said: “It’s made him more wary of people and he said he’d never leave his bike again during his rounds, he was upset about it.
“He’s really happy with the donation, it’s really good of them and Newscaster to help out. He’s now got another bike so he’s much happier now.”
The incident happened on the morning of July 7, Mr Canning added.
