A SCHEME set to bring superfast broadband to parts of the Isle of Axholme has passed a major milestone.
The Northern Lincolnshire Broadband project has successfully passed the latest ‘assurance checkpoint’ from Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK), the body responsible for managing the Government’s broadband funding.
It means the Northern Lincolnshire Broadband project can now move up to the next stage of the process and select a partner via formal tender to deliver superfast broadband to 90 per cent of North and North East Lincolnshire.
The project is on target to complete the formal tender process by next summer with work starting soon after.
If the project had not passed the assurance checkpoint, the next stage of the process would have been delayed.
Councillor Neil Poole, Cabinet Member for Policy and Resources at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “We can press ahead with the next part of the Northern Lincolnshire Broadband project now that the government has given us the thumbs-up.
“The news comes alongside an increased bid for £5m of European funding to supplement the money from the Government.
