Old Market Hall open after Doncaster Council’s under-age drink “stings” Wetherspoons £50,000 in legal costs, the chain’s boss has revealed.

Despite the council abandoning their case on the morning of the hearing, in the wake of a fierce Times campaign, Spoons chairman Tim Martin revealed the huge bill in pub magazine Wetherspoon News.

Mr Martin again praised the Times but went on to write: “It’s difficult to understand the exact motivation of the local authority in this case – especially since at least one other pub in the town also fell victim to a similar sting operation, but, unlike Wetherspoon, steps were not taken to review its licence”.

RAWMARSH and District Choral Society presents its Easter Celebration at the Methodist Church High Street Centre, Rawmarsh, on April 16 at 7.15pm.

The musical director is Jeff Tiler and the accompanist Jonathan Gooing. Admission £7 to include refreshments.
