UP TO 140 new jobs may follow the creation of a new £10m Tesco store in Hoyland.

The scheme – on a former school site at Market Street – could also create another 100 temporary construction jobs if passed by Barnsley planners. A public exhibition is planned, to show off the 20,000 sq ft store.

A MOTORIST suffered two badly broken legs in a road collision at Wombwell late on Sunday night.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident that occurred about 12.05am on Station Road, near the junction with Ings Road.

The silver Nissan Micra car hit a concrete lamppost before landing back in the road.

The 25-year old driver was detained in Barnsley Hospital while his passenger, a 23-year old man, was treated for whiplash.

Police need to hear from anyone who witnessed the manner in which the vehicle was being driven before the incident.

FEWER fatal work injuries were recorded last year than in 2009. There were six work-related deaths recorded across South Yorkshire, compared to 10 the year before, according to figures from the Health and Safety Executive. There were two in Doncaster, two in Barnsley, one in Rotherham and one in Sheffield. The number of serious workplace injuries fell, from 297 to 271.
