This move follows concern across the Isle that some smaller post offices may close as part of wide-reaching changes within the Post Office organisation.

The Keadby facility in Station Road will become open-plan, and will offer a wide range of services over seven days. Its opening hours will more than double to 96 hours each week from 6am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 6am to 6pm on Sundays.

Post Office local is a new concept, and the Keadby outlet will have a serving point at the retail counter where Post Office products and services will be available alongside retail transactions.

Keadby Post Office will close for refurbishment at 1pm on March 19 with the new look branch scheduled to open at 1pm on March 28.

Post Office Area Manager Lesley Frankland said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Keadby and we are confident that this new service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

She added: “This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

A total of £1.34 billion has been allocated to the Post Office network to ensure there is no programme of closures and to update branches, she said.

Last November the Government announced £640 million investment in the Post Office network from 2015 to 2018.

Nationwide the investment programme will see up to 8,000 branches and community outlets modernised.
