Single price retailer Poundland is opening a new store at the old Tesco building in Mexborough on Thursday.
The shop, which will open in the High Street, will be the first in the area with the closest store situated over four miles away in Rotherham. 13 new jobs have been created.
It will bring a new lease of life to the vacant former Tesco building, which closed in April with the loss of 55 jobs.
To mark the occasion, the first 100 customers will receive a free £5 voucher to spend.
There will also be entertainment throughout the day from Poundland’s mascot, the Pound Hound.
Tim McDonnell, Poundland’s retail director, said: “We are delighted to bring our unique proposition to Mexborough.
“Poundland offers amazing value on top branded products to over 5.5 million customers every week for just £1 and we look forward to opening our doors.”
Since opening its first store 25 years ago, Poundland now has over 600 stores nationwide and offers thousands of items at £1.
Poundland stocks over 1000 brands including Cadbury’s, Heinz and Coca-Cola and more than 3,500 daily essentials including everything from household products to health and beauty items.
