New police chief appointed

SOUTH Yorkshire Police Authority has appointed David Crompton as the new chief constable for the county.

The 48-year-old Mancunian served as assistant chief constable for local policing and assistant chief constable for territorial operations before becoming deputy chief constable of West Yorkshire Police in 2008.

He said: “It is a great honour and privilege to become chief constable of South Yorkshire Police, a force which has a fantastic reputation as one of the best in the country”.
