New boy Dougall off the mark for Reds: Barnsley 1 Hull City 1
New boy Kenny Dougall scored two minutes into his Barnsley debut during their final pre-season friendly.
The Australian under-23 international penned a two-year deal at Oakwell on Friday.
And just over 24 hours after moving to the club, the defensive midfielder slotted the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box against Hull City at Oakwell.
The new signing impressed and spread the play well. The player will plug a huge gap after Joe Williams and Gary Gardner both returned to their parent clubs at the end of last season.
Dougall fits German boss Daniel Stendel’s system well as a player who will quickly regain possession after the ball’s been lost.
Worryingly for the Reds Welsh international Ryan Hedges went off injured early in the first half and will face a race against time to be fit for the season opener against Oxford United on Saturday.
Striker Nouha Dicko had two chances for the visitors but failed to force captain Adam Davies into action.
Davies did have to have his wits about him to keep Todd Kane out, before towering centre -orward Kieffer Moore fired wide down the other end.
In the 32nd minute, the Championship club were level with Jarrod Bowen latching on to a good ball before beating Davies from an acute angle.
Bowen almost doubled his tally after the break with Davies up to the task of keeping him out this time around.
Alex Mowatt, who has played his way into contention with an impressive pre-season, left the bar rattling with a powerful strike.
After the hour mark Mowatt did well to find Moore who once again fired off target.
Meanwhile, the Reds are trying to hang on to their top stars.
The club have rejected bids for Kieffer Moore, Tom Bradshaw and Brad Potts with the Barnsley hierarchy keen to hold on to the trio rather than cash in.
