Do you know anything about these random photographs that are all from around the Doncaster area?

Faces and places recorded photographically form part of an area’s history, be it social, educational, political, sporting, or industrial.
These snapshots are from the Local Studies section at the main Doncaster Library, some from very many years ago, but with no information about where they came from, or the people who are featured on them, although their clothes may give some clues as to the time when they were taken.
Heritage advisor Liz Astin said: “We do have many very interesting photographs within our collection that we can’t label or research. If anyone does recognise any of these people or situations, perhaps from family history or from other old photographs, we would love to be informed.
“Here in Local Studies we hold historical sources and records that relate to Doncaster and its surrounds.
“We can help people researching their family tree in genealogical records, and we have trade and street directories, information on famous local people, and copies of local newspapers dating back to 1785 on microfilm. They include the Yorkshire Journal, the Doncaster Gazette and the Doncaster Chronicle.
“We are always happy to help, and have computers available along with printing facilities.”
Much work has been carried out in recent times at the local studies section, linked with the hundredth anniversary of WWI, said Liz.
“We get quite a few people in working on family trees, or tracing the history of their house, but we also see school groups, and individuals working on specific projects that they need to research.
“I find my job fascinating. We often become totally engrossed when researching a subject, as you keep discovering more. I do love helping people to get results.”
