Mystery of car abandoned at top of Doncaster hill

A car has been left abandoned at the top of a Doncaster hill for more than three days.

The silver Vauxhall Vectra Estate has been dumped at the top of Bentley pit top - leaving people to speculate as to who owns the car and why it was abandoned there.

The car, with the registration plate X811 RJO, has been left in woodland on the former colliery site with the drivers' side door left open to the elements.

Dog walkers, runners and walkers have all reported seeing the car since the weekend.

Samantha Bowkett who spotted the car and shared pictures of the abandoned vehicle in a Facebook group called "Cars and Vans for sale in Doncaster"and wrote: "Anyone missing a Vauxhall Vectra estate, it's on Bentley pit top."

The car appears to be wedged in a ditch after being grounded on a patch of grass on the one-time spoil heap which has been transformed into a community woodland.

The owner of the vehicle is being urged to contact South Yorkshire Community Rangers on 0300 067 4340.
