Doncaster NHS bosses are stepping up their efforts to stop pregnant women from smoking - which can potentially harm their unborn babies.

Doncaster’s Stop Smoking Service staff are to be at Doncaster Royal Infirmary’s Women’s Hospital from May 13 until May 17 to give advice on stopping smoking.

They will be talking to people between 9.30am and 4.30pm each day apart from Friday, when they will be on hand between 9.30am and 2.30pm.

Experts say one of the first steps to stopping smoking is making your home smoke free; so throughout the week staff will be taking Smoke Free Homes pledges from people in the wards.

The service offers free advice on all the medications available to help in stopping smoking, and can advise people on how to make lifestyle changes.

Trained advisors will also help smokers look at the real health costs of smoking, and, what can be bought with the money which they save by not smoking.

Maryanne Wylde, stop smoking specialist at the service, said: “Coming to your local stop smoking service will increase your chances of success by up to four times.
