A BAGEL factory based in Swinton - reputed to be the largest in Europe - is to undergo a multi-million pound extension.
The New York Bakery Co is investing £11.5m in their facility at the Swinton Meadows Industrial Estate.
Parent company Maple Leaf Foods said it is responding to the success of New York Bakery Co’s bagel re-launch earlier this year, which has seen sales of the product grow by 66 per cent.
The company said it had added £8m to incremental sales since the re-launch.
A number of jobs - the company has not yet revealed how many - are expected to be created following the move.
Simon Foster, VP Marketing of Maple Leaf Bakery UK, said: “Our strong performance is the product of the market’s growing demand for bagels, the quality and authenticity of our product and our carefully planned re-launch earlier this year.
“We are excited about increasing our sales in the UK market and are confident in our expansion plans.
“The significant backing by Maple Leaf Foods will enable us to move forward with our ambitious expansion plans in the next five to 10 years.
“As a result we can now increase our capacity at our Rotherham site to meet growing consumer demand and support our growth aspirations as the market leader in speciality bagels.”
