Money matters for Sheffield students

It was all about money for students at Hillsborough College when a financial expert from HML visited to pass on some valuable advice.

Saving, spending and money management were all on the curriculum at a session organised by The Money Charity and the Yorkshire-based mortgage servicing company. recently.

Andrew Jones, Chief Executive Officer at HML, said: “Helping to teach money management to young people in Sheffield and across Yorkshire means they are better equipped to find financial stability and success later in life.

“As mortgage servicers we see first-hand how difficult it is for some families to make ends meet.

“ We feel that hosting workshops such as these serve as a building block for youngsters to learn about money and therefore make more informed decisions in the future.”

Rebecca Spencer, tutor mentor for the class at Hillsborough College, said: “Everyone at the college is incredibly grateful to both The Money Charity and HML for organising the workshop.

“It’s vitally important that young people go out into the world of work with a good understanding of how to manage their money and the financial choices that lie ahead.”

HML recently donated a sum of £20,000 to The Money Charity to support the delivery of 100 hours of classes to around 2,500 young people at schools and colleges right across Yorkshire.

Sessions are geared to provide the building blocks towards sound money management, including a chance for students themselves to discuss the issues and take away materials to help with budgeting and planning.

HML has a history of engaging with local schools and other institutions as well as undertaking charitable work.

The staff at its Skipton headquarters have donated more than £600,000 to various charities over the last 20 years.
