RAWMARSH medical student Hannah Higgins is the new Miss South Yorkshire! And she could now become Miss England.
An electrifying evening at Rotherham’s Holiday Inn saw Hannah, 20, crowned with the title that wins her a host of prizes.
For the first time, all three first-placed girls were from Rotherham. In second place was 21-year-old Sophie Clarke from Wickersley, while Laura Gregory, 23, of Brinsworth, was third.
Judges included Hilary Massarella, MBE, of the Safe@Last charity, and actor Dean Andrews of Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes and Marchlands fame.
They were wowed by Hannah as she sparkled – in an evening gown that she will now keep – and her own Yorkshire tea bags eco-dress inspired by Vivienne Westwood creations.
Livewire Hannah, who is in her final year at Leeds University, said she is “weighing up her options” for a future career – that could be in medicine.
In June, she will will jet off to Gambia to help opticians, doctors and surgeons in their bid to restore the sight of afflicted people. She hopes to collect 1,000 pairs of glasses before she leaves.
