A Doncaster grandmother says it is a miracle no-one was hurt after a car hurled into her home.
The woman, aged 54, who did not want to be named said: “It’s a miracle nobody was hurt. It felt like the house was falling down.”
Police were called to West Street, Conisbrough, shortly after 8am on Saturday July 18 after a BMW crashed in to two garden walls and a house.
Nobody was seriously injured in the crash.
“I’m so glad it wasn’t during the week because that is the time when my grandchildren would have been coming in to the house,” said the grandmother of three.
“My husband had just got in to bed following a night shift and I was just getting up when we heard two big bangs.
“Our neighbour had seen what happened and we heard her scream because she thought the people in the car were dead. It’s amazing they weren’t seriously hurt.”
The woman and her 55-year old husband went downstairs to find their wall knocked down and a white BMW just outside their house. It was facing up the street, though the one-way system means it would have been travelling in the opposite direction.
“We believe the car came down the hill, hit a car at one side of the road, went across the road and hit the kerb, then somehow flipped over on to its roof, hit next doors wall, and then flipped back on to its wheels and hit our wall - before coming to a stop.”
The emergency services were called and police, firefighters and ambulance arrived shortly after.
“The man and his son, who looked about 10-years-old were out of the car and at the other side of the road by the time they arrived.
“Paramedics checked them over and thankfully they were fine.
“I believe he must have been coming down the road at some speed to cause the damage that he did.
“We’ve lived in this house for over 30 years, and we’ve never seen anything happen like this before, but speeding has got worse over the years.
“You can see all the marks on the speed bump at the top of the street where the bottom of cars have been scrapped.
“Something needs doing, the speed limit needs lowering.”
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Emergency services were alerted to a crash after a car left a road and smashed into a wall and property in Conisbrough. The incident on West Street was reported at 8.05am on Saturday.
“The driver and passenger of the BMW involved in the crash were checked at the scene but escaped with minor injuries.”
