Mexborough public meeting to debate pub stings

By Alex Vessey

Mexborough Wetherspoon’s recent brush with closure is on the agenda for a public meeting in Mexborough next Tuesday.

Independent pressure group Doncaster Council Watch want locals to talk about the recent underage drink “stings” that almost shut the Old Market Hall pub, at a debate in Mexborough Library.

Following on from the Times’ successful Save Our Spoon’s Campaign, the group will discuss whether the “entrapment” snares carried out at the pub by Trading Standards, are “dangerous and/or immoral”.

The agenda also includes a debate about the future of Doncaster’s mayoral system, following a council vote to hold a referendum to abolish the post after 2012, and a discussion on the future of Doncaster’s Grand Theatre.

The meeting runs from 2-4pm.
