YOUNG arsonists are thought to have caused an all-night barn blaze at West Melton.
Up to 185 tonnes of hay and straw went up in flames in the barn at Highfield Farm off Melton High Street.
Fire crews from four stations attended the blaze, that began at 6.20pm last night and was still smouldering this morning.
Parents of children who attend the nearby West Melton Primary School were contacted by text message early this morning, to inform them that the school was unaffected and would open as usual. No other buildings were put at risk.
A fire spokesman said that no hose reels were used. Crews observed the fire through the night and are re-visiting throughout the day to ensure safety.
