Man killed on Doncaster railway line

A man was killed by a freight locomotive near Doncaster early today.

The main line near Arksey was closed for about an hour-and-a-half as emergency services investigated the tragedy, involving a DB Schenker goods train.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to the line close to Arksey Lane, Doncaster, this morning following a report of a man being struck by a train.

“The incident was reported to BTP at 1.10am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

“Medics from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service also attended the incident, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the man and inform his family. A file will be prepared for the Coroner.”

The line was handed back to Network Rail at 2.40am.
