Man in hospital after Mischief Night attack by 30 youths

A man was taken to hospital after being repeatedly punched in the head by a gang of up to 30 youths in Wath.

The 53-year-old was attacked by the yobs after confronting the gang who had thrown an egg at his window in a Mischief Night prank.

The man went outside his home on Sandygate to be met by a group of 20-30 youths and he initially chased two of its members of his property before being met by a larger group.

A police spokesman said the man was then allegedly assaulted by the gang, being repeatedly punched to the head and body.

The victim sustained cuts and bruising and broken bones that required hospital treatment.

The group, made up of both boys and girls, all aged between 14 and 17, had fled before police arrived.

South Yorkshire Police are now seeking witnesses following the incident at around 8pm on Tuesday, 4 November - locally dubbed Mischief Night across South Yorkshire and northern England where children play pranks on adults.
