The Epworth Hospice Helpers - Hannah Piggott and George Shapland - took the runners up spot in the annual competition, winning a PGL holiday to France which will include a couple of days at Disneyland in Paris.
As reported in the Bells, the ‘helpers’ organised the Be Fit, Be Healthy Challenge.
They devised a healthy eating competition which was promoted in Isle schools, and stalls were held to give out leaflets and merchandise provided by the ‘Change 4 Life’ campaign.
Lots of preparation went into a ‘Fit Fun Day’ at Fountain Court which attracted all age groups with fitness games for the young and a marathon exercise bike-a-thon which many people participated in.
A raffle was held with proceeds all going to Martins Children’s Hospice.
Continuing their theme, the team also embarked upon a triathlon, successfully completing a ten mile cycle ride, five mile walk and one mile swim.
Finally, they visited a local day care centre for the elderly and ran an armchair aerobics session using a DVD which proved so popular that the staff have committed to continuing the activity in the future, thus ensuring the team have successfully completed their mission!
