Football League clubs will have to adhere to new loan rules from next season onwards. Emergency loans have been scrapped and only half-season or season-long loans will be permitted.

Rovers have relied heavily on the old system as a means of bolstering numbers and covering for injuries. They have signed more than 50 loan players in the last six seasons.

That trend continued under Darren Ferguson, who signed 11 players on loan following his appointment in October: Chris Neal, Remi Matthews, Felipe Mattioni, Craig Alcock, Tommy Rowe, Conor Grant, Cameron Stewart (loan extension), Eddy Lecygne, Riccardo Calder, Gary McSheffrey and Lynden Gooch.
