Former Isle pub landlord Mick Grimes will tour the Isle, and the hostelries he loved, for the final time on the last day of this month.

The funeral procession of the former Carpenter’s Arms landlord at Westwoodside will begin at that pub on January 31 then travel through Haxey, past the Duke William, Loco and King’s Arms pubs to Owston Ferry, taking in the White Hart and the Ferryboat.

From there it will go to St Bernadette’s RC Church at Scunthorpe for the service at 1.30pm. This will be followed by a committal at Woodlands crematorium at 2.40pm.

All friends of the popular local character are invited to follow the procession and/or attend the service by his daughters Karen and Katie.

Seventy-year old Mr Grimes, known to many as ‘Irish Mick’ lived most recently in Owston Ferry.

He died in hospital on Monday evening following his collapse from a suspected heart attack as he celebrated the Haxey Hood contest with friends.

Full funeral details will be printed in next week’s Epworth Bells.
