LABOUR MPs for Doncaster including party leader Ed Miliband have called for urgent action over Doncaster Council’s approach to child protection.

Caroline Flint, Rosie Winterton and Mr Miliband have vowed to meet with education secretary Michael Gove to discuss the two highly-critical reports into Doncaster’s children’s services.

In a joint statement, they said: “These reports make very serious reading for Doncaster Council. Its Children’s Services are now deemed ‘inadequate’ – a worse report than a year ago – and Lord Carlile’s report makes clear that progress in improving child protection is far from the standard it should have reached.

“Doncaster Council must urgently assess why its approach to child protection is failing to improve fast enough to provide the security vulnerable children require in our borough, three years on from the J Children case.

“The pace of change to improve this service must be faster. We are clear that the Ofsted report shows too much work is poor and unprofessional with too many families in great need.”
