It’s a jungle out there in Rotherham libraries

Parents are being encouraged to get their children into reading by attending jungle-themed Rhymetime sessions at Rotherham libraries.

They will be held in all of the town’s 15 libraries between Monday June 8 and Sunday, June 14 to mark National Bookstart Week - an annual celebration of the Book Trust’s flagship Bookstart reading programme.

It aims to reinforce the importance of reading every day.

Councillor David Roche, Advisory Cabinet Member for Rotherham Council, said: “The sessions are a marvellous way to get young children interested in books, which hopefully will provoke a life-long love of literature and stories.”

Diana Gerald, Chief Executive of Book Trust, said: “I treasure those wonderful shared moments reading with my child.

“You are doing something special, and for a few minutes the outside world stops while you read.

“Research has shown that reading to young children every day makes a huge difference in terms of their future confidence, communication skills, well-being and educational attainment.”
