Isle residents asked for comments on proposed park and ride service changes

Members of the public are being urged to have their say on a proposal to relocate the Scunthorpe hospital park and ride service to a town centre location.

The current service, which was launched in 2009, runs between Scunthorpe United Football Club, at Glanford Park, and the hospital. It was launched to ease parking pressures on the hospital site with both staff and members of the public able to use it.

Six years on and an off-site parking facility remains essential, however the current service has recently been reviewed in light of the Trust’s requirement to save money and the fact the football club is looking to relocate in the future.

Sally Yates, logistics manager for the Trust, said: “We are seeking comments from members of the public and staff on proposals to the relocate the park and ride service to a town centre location which would use the Hornsby service bus.”

If given the go ahead to relocate by the Executive Team, people would park in the Parishes multi-storey, which is linked to the cinema complex, and use the number nine Hornsby service from the bus station.

Sally said: “Existing benefits to visitors would remain such as free parking and concessions. The current operating hours between 7am and 7pm would remain however the frequency of the service would change to every 20 minutes from the current 15 minutes.”

The service would continue to be free for staff – with free parking and travel on the bus. For members of the public they would continue to pay 50p each way and would get free car parking.

Sally added: “The Trust is under continued financial pressure and this change would offer savings to the organisation. In addition to this the football club’s plans to relocate would potentially present additional charges to the Trust for the increased journey and for occupying the new site.”

People have until Tuesday November 17 to comment on the proposal. If approved by the Executive Team the service would relocate from Monday January 4 2016.
