Following a recent consultation with Library users across North Lincolnshire library opening hours across the Isle are to be extended.

The decision will affect Crowle, Epworth, Haxey where the users clearly expressed a preference to extend the opening times to include more late nights or more time on Saturdays.

Library staff will now be consulted ahead of the changes coming into effect in January 2015.

Councillor John Briggs said: “At a time when many councils are closing libraries, we must be one of the few in the country to be increasing library opening times. Our residents tell us they value the services that libraries offer, and we wanted to commit to improving the opportunities that residents have to use this excellent service.

“There is a cost to delivering this increase, however because we have been careful with residents money we can deliver on our commitment to retain and improve valuable frontline services.”

Councillor Julie Reed said: “The services we offer in libraries are changing dramatically, from e books to children’s sessions from family history session to community learning, I am proud to say that we will have a library service fit for our customers and most importantly that we have listened clearly to when those customers want to use it.”

Isle MP Andrew Percy added: “I must praise North Lincolnshire council for their commitment to library services. I am pleased that in North Lincolnshire we are continuing to provide and enhance these important front line services that many Isle residents benefit from using.”
