Isle academy upholds '˜Rights of the Child'

The efforts of St Norbert’s Catholic Primary Academy to work for children’s rights have earned it the Level Two Award of the United Nations Convention for the Rights of the Child.

This convention is the only international human rights treaty that sets out in detail what every child needs for a happy, safe and fulfilled childhood.

Assessors from UNICEF visited the Crowle school community in January this year, judging Saint Norbert’s to have ‘established itself as a powerful ambassador for children’s rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.” They added that ‘this is a school in which global citizenship and sustainable development are promoted at strategic level and understood by all’.

Pam Tonge, Headteacher, said: “I am very proud of our community in achieving the highest award as a ‘Rights Respecting School’, which recognises the commitment of our passionate ambassadors. Governors, staff, parents, children and our wider community have worked as a strong team for several years to promote and support children’s rights throughout the world. We will continue with this important work and hope that through our regular child-led conferences, other schools will follow the lead of our children. I would like to sincerely thank all who have supported or contributed including past pupils who began this worthy venture.”
