International business role for Sheffield students

Enterprise students were set an international expansion project as part of their Sheffield College coursework.

Twenty students were given a brief by Lewis Bowen, managing director of Air, named by Virgin as one of the top four entrepreneurs to watch out for in 2016.

Students researched countries suitable for the company to expand its innovative candle product. They presented their findings to Mr Bowen and other business experts, and the best pitch was chosen. The winners were Callum Burns, 16, Molly Buckley,18, and Frank Masvinge, 18.

Student Callum Burns said: “Applying what you learn in the classroom to real life business really develops our key skills such as problem solving and communication.”

Lewis Bowen, Managing Director of Air, added: “I was blown away by the quality of the presentations.

“Businesses should tap in to young fresh ideas more often.”

The BTEC Diploma in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship equips young people with the skills and knowledge to either set up their own businesses, help them shine in an existing one, or go on to higher education.

Students work on real life business challenges and launch their own start-up as part of the course.
