Conisbrough nurse Astra Taylor, who lost NINE teeth when thugs smashed a bottle in her face in a pub, hopes a huge Let’s Keep Astra Smiling fundraising party tomorrow (Friday) will raise a few grins – including her own!

Family and friends of the 20-year-old have organised a party at Conisbrough’s Lord Conyers Hotel to help raise the thousands of pounds needed to permanently replace Astra’s missing teeth – which were smashed from her mouth in an unprovoked horror attack at the nearby Fox Inn in November.

At least 200 people are expected at the event, which starts at 7pm, and which will include live bands, auctions, raffles, games and a pie and pea supper.

And among the prizes on offer are two hours of free tattooing, a manicure session and a full English breakfast.

Astra’s family are appealing for anyone else with raffle prizes to donate them on the night.

The money raised tomorrow will go to the Astra Taylor Fund – an account set up especially to fund both Astra’s dental treatment and, ultimately, dental work for other victims of violence – which is not funded on the NHS.

It is now estimated that Astra – who is forced to wear dentures to cover the gap – will need around £18,000 of treatment to have her smile restored.

Meanwhile, she has been to meet a private, Yorkshire-based cosmetic dentist who volunteered to waive his labour costs, after learning of her plight in the Times.

After an initial consultation, he has now said he believes something can be done to mend Astra’s broken mouth.

Tickets for the party tomorrow night cost £5 and include a pie and pea supper.

They are available from organiser Dawn Bulcroft via the social networking site Facebook.
