Staff at Doncaster’s hospice have been bowled over after tea ladies from a village cricket club handed over a cheque for more than £1,000.
Three Tickhill Cricket Club tea ladies, Ruth Barnett, Lynne Bradshaw and Judy Horton, presented staff at St John’s Hospice with a cheque for £1079.
The women had raised the money by holding a raffle and afternoon tea at the cricket club.
They decided to raise the cash for the hospice after two of their good friends, who were also cricket club tea ladies, Gerry Porter and Rita Harper, were cared for at the hospice last year before they died.
Ruth said: “We wanted to raise money to say a big thank you for the work the hospice has done for our two friends. The hospice staff were so good to them both. Both Gerry and Rita were well known in the village and so many people supported our event. We would also like to thank the local businesses who supported us by providing raffle prizes.”
Alison Constantine, voluntary services manager at the hospice, said: “I want to thank Ruth, Lynne and Judy for raising so much money. I’d also like to thank everyone who supported the event. Every penny from the donation will go towards supporting people who use our service.”
