The Auckley school defeated rivals from Sheffield and Doncaster to win the South Yorkshire County Championships and book their place in the northern finals.

Striker Grace Holland scored four times in a superb 7-0 win over Hayfield School in the final. Daisy Bennett performed well on the right wing, while Daniella North also impressed in central defence.

Hill House had earlier made a slow start against Sheffield champions Tapton School before Doncaster Hockey Club’s Eleanor Kidney and Sophie Parkinson managed to take control and help their side to a 4-1 win.

Hayfield found it less straighforward reaching the last two as they had to produce a stunning late comeback to beat Tapton, scoring four times in the last ten minutes to prevail 4-3.

Master in charge of hockey, Peter Shipston, said: “To have won the county finals at this age group for the last five years is a superb achievement.

“The girls now go on to the northern finals in Manchester, where they will play against the champions of Cheshire and Great Manchester.”
