The heat is on at the Dearne Advanced Learning Centre after a furious mum accused the school of putting “smartness” above pupils’ health during this week’s heatwave.
Thurnscoe mum Sara Jones claims the Goldthorpe school made her 12-year-old son Cody Warrior wear a jumper and long-sleeved shirt in 30C heat on Monday – and disciplined him when he tried to take his jumper off!
She said he almost passed out with the heat, and would hold the school responsible if he fell ill with heatstroke.
Sara told the Times: “My son was reprimanded and threatened with a letter home for removing his jumper in that heat.
“They are putting “smartness” over well-being but kids passing out from wearing such clothing is not a good look.”
A spokewoman for the Dearne ALC said: The dress code is a poly/cotton shirt or blouse with a jumper or cardigan.
“The ALC allows all students to remove their jumpers and cardigans in warm weather.
“Students have the option to wear white short sleeved cotton shirts. We wish our students to learn in a comfortable environment and would not put any extra stress on students.”
