STOPTOBER: Smokers start the 28 day challenge to give up the fags

Are you a smoker? Do you want to quit? Then today is the day to start as the nation joins forces to take part in Stoptober.

Over the the next 28 days we will be giving you tips and advice to give up the fags for good in line with the national campaign being run by Public Health England.

You can sign up for the month-long challenge by visiting Stoptober where you can get your hands on a support pack as well as handy hints about dealing with cravings.

A spokesman said: “There are lots of other ways that you can improve your chances of quitting. You may already be considering e-cigarettes, nicotine replacement therapy or stop smoking medicines. Your Local Stop Smoking service can offer free advice on the range of options and will also support you through the 28 days.”

If you stop smoking for 28 days you are five times more likely to stop for good.

From today, October 1, it will be illegal to smoke in vehicles with someone under 18 present. With one less place to smoke, there is one more reason to quit.
