A brave Mexborough runner whose heart stopped beating for 15 minutes after suffering a cardiac failure is in training for a marathon on New Year’s Day.
Sean Rodgers, 45, of Lynwood Drive, suffered a cardiac arrest in 2009 while in bed after completing a training run and was saved when his wife Maria gave him chest compressions.
The father-of-two was diagnosed with a rare heart condition and was fitted with a defibrillator. But he has not let it slow him down and he is taking on the Liverbird Marathon in Liverpool on January 1.
He said: “I will have to watch the food and drink and I’m planning a ten mile run on Christmas Day.”
Proceeds will go to the Dr Ted’s Children’s Appeal for youngsters in Rotherham Hospital.
