Fundraisers across town donned red for various causes as part of a charity drive to promote heart health.
Business owners in Bawtry showed their support for British Heart Foundation’s Wear it, Beat it campaign.
Members of Bawtry Retail Association (pictured) adopted the BHF as one of its 2015 charities along with cancer charity Aurora, for which the town has raised thousands of pounds in recent years.
“We are proud to support these two fantastic charities and have lots of events planned in the coming months,” said Rebecca Dickenson, chairman Bawtry Retail Association.
“Both are extremely important to many of our members and Bawtry residents.”
During the last year a defibrillator was purchased with members of the association receiving training.
Already it has proved worthy when owner of The Vanilla Rooms, Rebecca Dickenson, had to call on it for her young son who fell ill. “It was particularly poignant that I needed to get the defibrillator for my son,” commented Rebecca.
“Thankfully it wasn’t required and he has made a full recovery but it just shows what a massive difference it could make to someone’s life and the lives of their loved ones.” Meanwhile, children and Doncaster businesses also joined in for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund, which support the Leeds Heart Unit.
Hawthorn Primary in Cantley, Bessacarr’s Willow Primary and Carcroft Primary were among the schools involved.
Hawthorn headteacher Diane Wakefield commented: “Helping Children’s Heart Surgery Fund to provide vital equipment and support will make such a worthwhile difference to children suffering from congenital heart disease.”
Carl Dixon from Balby also dyed his beard red in aid of raising awareness of heart disease.
