An equaliser by Bálint Bajner in injury time denied Barnsley a win away to Notts County after Sam Winnall had given the Reds an early lead.

County had had a couple of half chances in the opening few minutes but Winnall put the Reds in front with nine minutes gone with Josh Scowen providing the assist and the striker firing over the head of home keeper Roy Carroll.

In an entertaining first half Jabo Ibehre was denied on 16 minutes as he raced through on goal only for Carroll to save then two minutes later Gary Jones struck the post for County.

Both sides pressed but there were no further chances until the 39th minute when Winnall fashioned a chance for himself on the edge of the box and he too struck the post.

Conor Hourihane fired just wide soon after and at the other end Paddy McCourt then aimed for James Spencer in the box but the County forward couldn’t convert.

After the break Hourihane saw a shot deflect over the bar and Ibehre was thwarted again by Carroll.

On 67 minutes Winnall fired just wide of goal and a minute later McCourt shot well over from a free-kick.

Those two again traded efforts as Ben Pearson fed Winnall and his shot on the turn went just wide and then McCourt, who had a spell on loan at Oakwell last season, shot over when well placed after a pass from Gary Jones.

County, desperate for the points in their bid to avoid the drop to League Two, pushed to level, earning a series of corners and finally got their rewards in the 92nd minute when Will Hayhurst’s cross was knocked in by Hungarian Bajner who was booked for his celebrations.

Following the weekend’s improved performance in drawing against Chesterfield at Oakwell, Reds boss Lee Johnson made just the one change to his starting line-up.

And the alteration came up front, with Jabo Ibehre coming in from the substitutes’ bench to replace George Waring and join Sam Winnall at the sharp end.

Notts County remain in the drop zone and desperate for a win following eight matches without one, and their manager Ricardo Moniz made a couple of changes in the wake of Saturday’s draw at doomed Yeovil.
