Parking in Doncaster will be one less expense for Christmas shoppers, with the introduction of numerous periods of free parking.
At set times over the Christmas period, several locations will have free parking for those visiting the town centre, as part of a popular scheme which saves visitors money and encourages more people to shop in Doncaster.
From Saturday 12 December to Thursday 31 December, the first 3 hours of parking at the popular Chappell Drive car park will be totally free to visitors. The town centre location, close to Doncaster Market, makes this the perfect place to park for a Christmas shopping trip to our award winning market. The free parking offer will also be available when using the phone-based Ring Go service that many drivers use to pay for parking.
Christmas Weekend itself will see an excellent offer, with free parking on all council-operated surface car parks in the town centre between 3pm Thursday 24 December and 8am Tuesday 29 December. The parking machines will be switched off during this period and all stays in these car parks will be totally free.
Finally, there will be another free parking offer over the New Year weekend, from 3pm on 31 December to 8am on Monday 4 January. Parking machines will be off between these times, just like over Christmas, and New Year’s visitors will be able to enjoy this offer when making the most of the sales in the town centre.
Cabinet member for Regeneration and Transportation, Cllr Joe Blackham, said: “This Christmas we want to do what we can to support local residents and Doncaster businesses, which is why we are introducing free parking throughout the town centre at different times over the festive period.
“We hope that the free parking will put a few extra pounds in shoppers' pockets and help to attract even more people to Doncaster town centre, where they can enjoy the excellent shopping on the High Street, Market and in the Frenchgate centre.”
