Four in intensive care as Covid-19 cases creep up at Doncaster hospitals

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Worksop’s Bassetlaw Hospital said five further coronavirus patients were admitted yesterday.

A statement said: “We have admitted a further five individuals who have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing our overall total to 38.

"The breakdown of this is 37 at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and one at Bassetlaw Hospital. Four patients currently require intensive care, and we wish them the very best in their recovery.

“Looking to the positives, this is a smaller rise than we have seen for a few days – although still a rise - and we have discharged one patient.

"Most importantly, our position remains manageable, and will remain so with your support and continued observance of hands, face and space.

“We would however like to take this opportunity to reiterate our visiting restrictions.

"We are still seeing multiple visitors turning up at once, which we must unfortunately turn away.

"One visitor per day please for the most part. We are also aware of people who are supposed to be at home isolating coming to visit relatives.

"We can't stress how important it is to stay at home in these circumstances and not to venture out at all, not least to the hospital.

“We are also asking all visitors to wear a mask, without exception. This is a measure to protect patients, colleagues, as well as individuals, so please adhere to this. If you come to our site and are not wearing a mask, you will be challenged by a member of staff and may be asked to leave.

“We understand that these restrictions are frustrating, but these are the times we find ourselves within and we have to keep going for a little while longer. Thank you for your ongoing support, it means the world to us.”

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been more than 250 coronavirus deaths in Doncaster, while more than 500 patients have been successfully discharged after receiving treatment at the area’s hospitals.
