With my daughter on crutches our plan for taking my parents out for their ruby wedding anniversary meal were restricted to staying close to home.
So we opted for our village pub, The Blacksmith’s Arms in Hook, just on the outskirts of Goole.
As it was a Sunday we all decided on the carvery, with three different sizes to choose from, starting from a one meat meal for £6.95. The roasts of choice on this particular day were pork, turkey and beef, I went for the turkey and it was delicious.
With three types of potato to choose from - roast, mashed and new, carrot and swede, cauliflower and brocolli cheese, cabbage, mini sausages, stuffing balls and Yorkshire puds, there’s no chance of leaving hungry.
One thing I did like was that there were gravy boats on hand which you could take to your table.
And while myself and parents were ready for a nap after our lunch, my daughter had room (like she always does) for a dessert. She chose the chocolate fudge cake which came with two scoops of ice cream!
