A beer and food loving duo have set up shop in Doncaster town centre to showcase the borough’s local produce.

From the shops wooden panelling, to the hand picked selection of ales, cheeses and bread, every aspect of their ale house and delicatessen has been painstakingly chosen by owners Kath Thorpe, 32, and Rachel Brakes, 35.

The pair want to use The Marketplace, which opened earlier this month, to support local businesses and showcase the talent of some of the food and drink proprieters in Doncaster and across the region.

Kath, of Barnburgh, said: “I’ve met someone from every single brewery and vendor we stock, and we have a real passion for what we sell.”

She added: “We decided to set it up because we love good food and drink, and thought we’d love to bring something a little bit difficult to Doncaster with artisan products from Yorkshire.

“We’ve been to similar sort of places in York and Harrogate and brought a few ideas back with us.”

The shop is based in the Market Place next to The Mason’s Arms pub and tipples stocked include ales by Doncaster Brewery, the Imperial Brewery as well as spirits from Sprotbrough-based Brittains Vodka.

Kath and Rachel are both fans of real ale, and say they would like to change perceptions of real ale drinkers, and show that ‘it’s for women too.’ Also on offer is a wide selection of breads, cheeses, sausages, chutneys.
