The new once-a-week flights to Heraklion, Crete are one of 20 destinations provided by Thomson and First Choice from Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

Steve Gill, managing director of the airport, said: “We were delighted to welcome the first passengers for this new route to the airport.

“New routes and increased capacity is always fantastic news allowing more people to fly locally.

“The opening of The Great Yorkshire Way earlier this year makes Doncaster Sheffield Airport even easier to reach with travel time from Sheffield reduced to just 25 minutes.
