Firefighters were called out to a high rise tower block in Sheffield after a bin chute caught fire.
Smoke was seen billowing from the chute on Martin Street, Upperthorpe, Sheffield, at 9.40pm last night.
Because of the number of people who live in the block four fire engines were sent to the incident but nobody was hurt.
Discarded smoking materials are believed to have set fire to a blockage of rubbish in the chute.
Last night firefighters also tackled a grassland fire on Wadworth Street, Denaby Main, Doncaster, which is believed to have been started deliberately.
And a dirt bike was torched on Haverhill Grove, Wombwell, Barnsley at the same time as tyres, rubbish and old car parts were set alight on Neepsend lane, Neepsend, Sheffield.
At 2.40am today a Nissan Qashqai was torched on Brameld Road, Rawmarsh, Rotheram.
Each incident was reported to South Yorkshire Police.
Anyone with information should call 101.
