Fire station faces axe

ROYSTON Fire Station has been earmarked for closure under proposed changes to frontline services.

The plan involves removing the retained duty system crews at the station, which would lead to its closure.

The move comes after South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority revealed they are being faced with a Government budget cut of up to £10 million by 2015.

A public consultation has been launched and dates for a public meeting in the area are set to be announced shortly. Several other changes are proposed across the county.
